“Axel’s Dental Adventures” – A Short Story for Kids

Welcome, friends! Today we are going on a fun adventure with a fluffy Goldendoodle named Axel. Are you ready? Let us begin!

It was a bright, sunny morning when Axel bounced out of bed, his fluffy tail wagging. Axel was excited! Today was his first dental visit at Combs Pediatric Dentistry. Axel brushed his curls and grabbed his favorite squeaky bone for comfort, and trotted into a calm, sensory-friendly environment. The moment he stepped in, he gasped. There were warm colors displayed, and an on-site childcare area where Axel could play as he awaited his appointment.

“Hi, Axel!” called the cheerful front desk team. “We’re so excited you’re here for your first dental appointment.” Axel’s ears perked up. “Woof! I have never been to a dental office before. Do they check dog smiles too?” The front desk team laughed. “Well, today we’re checking your smile because you’re our very special guest!”

A friendly dental assistant guided Axel through the dental office, where he reached and into a cozy dental chair, covered in bright colors with a soft pillow just for Axel to rest his head. There was also a television above the dental chair for Axel to watch a funny movie, during his appointment! Axel hopped up into the dental chair, giving a little wiggle to get comfortable.

Dr. Kyla Combs, the Pediatric Dentist, walked in wearing a warm smile. “Hello there, Axel! Are you ready to count your teeth?” She announced. Axel opened his mouth wide, “Aaaaah!” Dr. Combs gently counted his teeth using a tiny mirror. “One … Two … Three … wow, Axel! Your smile is amazing!”, said Dr. Combs. Axel felt proud. His tail thumped against the chair.

Next, Dr. Combs showed Axel a special puppy-friendly toothbrush. “This is what we use to keep teeth nice and shiny,” she said, “Would you like to try?” Axel nodded eagerly and practiced brushing on a stuffed dinosaur they kept for training. Axel learned:

  • Brushing in small circles
  • Gentle brushing techniques
  • Brushing twice a day for two minutes to keep cavities away.
  • Flossing once a day to prevent cavities between teeth.

When he finished, the whole dental team clapped. It was then time for Axel to receive a professional cleaning from the dental assistant. After the cleaning was complete, Axel received x-rays and Dr. Combs returned to review the x-rays.

Dr. Combs, then said, “You did Awesome, Axel! You were so brave on your first dental visit, and you have no cavities!” Dr. Combs told Axel that he could sign his name on the ‘No Cavity Club Wall.’ After signing his name on the wall, the dental assistant guided Axel to the prize machines, where Axel received a bright bouncy ball. Axel was also handed a toothbrush goodie bag, so that he could continue his brushing techniques he learned today at home. Axel could not stop smiling and wagging his tail! As Axel walked out of the dental office, he thought “Going to the dentist is not scary at all. It’s kind of fun!”

From that day on, Axel proudly became the official Smile Ambassador for Combs Pediatric Dentistry, always reminding kids: Brush, floss, and keep those grins pawsitively bright!
